Wine Region: Cognac - Grande Champagne - France

Grape: 100 % GRANDE CHAMPAGNE - PREMIER CRU DE COGNAC

François Rabelais was born in Anjou (Loire Valley), son of Anne-Catherine Frapin, a notable figure of the early French Renaissance. As a writer, physician and humanist, he is famous for his provocative writings, uncompromising verve and surprisingly contemporary vision borne f rom a savant entourage, respectful of humankind in nature.

As a special homage, Frapin is dedicating an exceptional cognac to its illustrious ancestor, Maître Francois, ‘Plume Frapin’. The decanter is exquisitely decorated with golden calligraphy.

Tasting Notes:

It offers a shimmery, velvety, burnt orange colour. The bouquet is powerful and complex. Notes of dried apricots, fig, orange, liquorice. Notes of tobacco and cigar box appear in time in the glass.

On the palate, Plume offers sensual candied fruit, prunes and wood aromas with a characteristic rancio with an exceptionally long finish.

«Terroir, artful blending, patience and respect for nature make Plume Frapin an exceptional blend produced in a limited series of 500 numbered bottles.»

Patrice Piveteau, Cellar Master

Plume Frapin is a hymn to voluptuousness, resting in an exceptionally luxurious carafe, made by the famous ateliers of l’Orfèvrerie d’Anjou. A skilful balance between tradition and design, the decanter symbolises the unique link between Frapin and its illustrious ancestor. Two delicately designed 18 carat pink gold feathers adorn the carafe and the cork.

The exceptionally clean design of these carafes and use of uniquely elegant materials invite to a dreamlike tasting. The aromas unfold their sensual stanzas, candied fruits, prunes, undergrowth… until the epilogue of a characteristic rancio that lasts until the memory.

«Terroir, artful blending, patience and respect for nature make Plume Frapin an exceptional blend produced in a limited series of 500 numbered bottles.»

About the winery:

Frapin is one of the oldest producers of Cognac in France. Indeed, not only is the family’s history closely intertwined with the history of Cognac, its predates it by several centuries.

The Frapin family first appeared in what would become the Cognac region in 1270. The family have been wine growers, and later distillers, for 21 generations. Their 750-acre estate, the Chateau de Fontpinot in Segonzac, set in the heart of Cognac’s Grand Champagne district, has 600 acres of ugni blanc vineyards. It is the only Cognac producer that is classified as a Chateau.

All of the grapes come from the estate in the Grand Champagne appellation. This district is considered the heart of Cognac, and is the source of its greatest Cognacs. Frapin distills its base wine on the lees, giving the resulting spirit a creamier, more substantial palate weight.
