2017 is a great vintage in Languedoc, very hot and sunny summer, which brings a lot of concentration in the juice.
But the vines suffer a bit of dryness. It means less volume harvested but a great quality.
Those who have a chance to grab a case will have a magnificent nectar in the glass!
Grapes : 60% syrah, 20% mourvedre, 20% grenache
Average age of the vines : 30 years old.

How he transformed the family estate

Frederic Pourtalie farms around twenty-five hectares of vines in the newly created appellation of the Terrasses de Larzac. Based in Puechabon, some of the vines are in the neighboring villages of Aniane and Saint Saturnin. In 1999 Frederic and his sister Muriel took the helm of Domaine Montcalmes, and for the first time produced and bottled wine from their own vineyards.

The diverse collection of terroirs - from clay and limestone to pudding stones - gives the wines of Montcalmes balance, complexity and concentration. At night, cool air from the Cevennes mountains lowers the temperature by as much as 15-20°C. The combination of warm days and cool nights helps to achieve an amazing balance between ripe fruit, bright acidity, and soft tannins.

The domaine practices organic methods in the vineyard and has been certified as organic since 2015.
