Tasting notes

The 2021 Domaine de Montcalmès Terrasses du Larzac stands out for its purity, elegance, and remarkable aromatic complexity. Deep garnet in colour, it opens with an expressive nose of blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry, woven with violet, musk, licorice, eucalyptus, and the signature wild herbs of the garrigue. Subtle notes of tea leaves, vanilla, tobacco, and saddle leather add further nuance. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad, and expansive, delivering layers of ripe black and red fruits accented by peppery undertones and hints of licorice, cola, and dark chocolate. The structure is clean and precise, supported by soft, fine-grained, velvety tannins that carry into a long, persistent, and refreshingly lifted finish. With its balance, tension, and finesse, the 2021 vintage offers both immediate pleasure and promising aging potential.

More About The Winery

Domaine de Montcalmès is a family estate situated 30km Northwest of Montpellier. The estate underwent radical changes in 1998, the year the Pourtalié family bought it, in order to produce and bottle its own wines under its own label. Here, the ambition is to get the best of the vines, while respecting the environment. Traditional techniques, organic farming, very low yields, and gravitational system in the cellar are key factors to the high quality wine produced at the domain. Frédéric Pourtalié and his sister Muriel immediately gained local, national, and international recognition for their wines. They started the organic conversion of the domain in 2012.
