Chateau Olivier

Located 11 kilometres from the centre of Bordeaux in the appellation of Pessac-Leognan, Château Olivier dates back to the Middle Ages. In 1867 Alexandre de Bethmann became mayor of Bordeaux and his family quickly acquired the estate. Today the Bethmann family still own the domaine and entrusts all of the estates management to Laurent Lebrun, who at 38 has experience in France, USA and Australia as an agricultural engineer and oenologist. In 1953 Chateau Olivier received official classification for both its red and white wines and the vineyards of the estate have seen considerable work and investment in the last few years.

Vineyard & Winemaking : The 55 hectares of gravelly terroir are planted with 10 hectares of white grape varieties; Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle and 45 hectares or red grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The average age of vines is 20 years old for reds and 30 years old for whites.
White wines are fermented in barrels and age for 12 months on their lees while red wines spend 12 months in oak barrel of which a third is new.

Wines Produced : Château Olivier (grand vin) available in white and red and, La Seigneurie d’Olivier (red only) and Le Dauphin d’Olivier (white and red) both being considered as second wine.
