Tasting notes:

"Venus" is the emblematic plot of the Agrapart estate from a small plot of barely 60 ares: the Fosse aux pourceaux in Avize. The old Chardonnay vines, planted in 1959, are fully plowed by a faithful mare named ... Venus.

This rare pearl is vinified only in demi-muids without new oak and only about ten per year. This non-dosed Grand Cru has spent, after its bottling in May 2015, nearly 5 years to age in the cellars of the House.

On the nose, the floral notes are explosive, accompanied by powdered almonds and ultra-delicious fresh hazelnuts. The bubble is of a beautiful finesse, to lead to a mouth with a mineral and energetic structure, slightly spicy. The finish is lively, fresh and complex in a decidedly saline register.

Here is a great champagne of crazy elegance, with aging potential of at least 10 or 15 years. Pair this great “Venus” with grilled fish, scallops, lobster ravioli with morels, caramelized sweetbreads, the combinations will be wonderful.

Expert rating:

Vinous 90 / 100

"The 2014 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vénus is sourced from vines planted in 1959 in the La Fosse lieu-dit, a tiny parcel measuring just 0.3 hectares that is worked by horse. It is a stunning Champagne. Initially somewhat reticent, the Vénus literally explodes with a few hours of opening. Rich, exotic and wonderfully resonant, with soaring aromatics, the 2014 captures all of the intensity of Avize, showing tons of depth and class to burn. I suggest opening it several hours in advance, which will really allow the citrus, floral and mineral flavors to come alive. The 2014 was fermented in neutral oak and aged on the cork. No dosage. Disgorged: April 2020."

About the winery:

For four generations, the Agrapart Family is dedicated to the exploitation of its own vineyard of about 12 hectares, and only sells its own harvest, which amounts to 100.000 bottles per year, depending on the year’s climate.

The vineyard spreads on the towns of Avize, Oger, Oiry, and Cramant, all classified Grand Cru, and Avenay Val d’Or, Bergeres-les-Vertus and Mareuil, all classified Premier Cru, and right at the top of the quality ranking. Those Crus, like 51 others, are Champagne’s aristocrats, and Nature’s masterpieces.

The Agrapart family takes great care of this vineyard, with culture and aftercare suitable for Nature and respectful, while showing off with love grape productions worthy of the Agrapart name.

Just like a virtuoso alchemist, the Agrapart House composes its vintages with an art that dates back to several generations.
