Wine Region: Champagne - France
Grape: 100% Chardonnay.
Tasting notes: Well-textured Champagne that shows a crisp apple freshness underlined by strong minerality. At seven years past vintage, the wine is just starting to lose its initial freshness and develop attractive toasty elements.
'Delamotte's just-released 2014 Blanc de Blancs has turned out very well indeed, opening in the glass with scents of citrus zest, crisp orchard fruit, fresh bread and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and incisive, with excellent depth at the core, racy acids and a chalky finish. It has real cut and persistence and should age very gracefully indeed.' Expert Rating: Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 94/100
How to Enjoy: Chilled but never cold (around 8°C) and served in an elegant tulip-shaped wine glass. Its fine mineral character develops more intensity when exposed to air revealing a complexity acquired from its extended lees ageing. It goes well with oysters and grilled fish. It is equally at home with crunchy radishes, especially dipped in a touch of fleur de sel. But, for all that, the Blanc de Blancs can still be enjoyed in its own as an aperitif.
About the winery: The unofficial second label of the super-prestige marquee, Salon, in that Delamotte has first rights to any grapes from Salon’s prized 50 year old vineyards in the premier Chardonnay village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger that it’s neighbor doesn’t need for it’s own Champagne.
Maison Delamotte has been a benchmark in Champagne since 1760. Produced with great care and passion in a place where nature is expressed most openly. Maison Delamotte expresses to perfection the characteristics of the Cote des Blancs. Light, gossamer-textured, impertinent, more complex with ageing, discrete yet present, heady but not heavy, Champagne at any time, for any occasion.
