On the slopes of one of the steepest, craggiest hills on the estate, the medieval-era Knights Templar built a fort that can be seen to this day. To commemorate the builders, L’Escarelle very finest wine bears the famous cross of the Order of the Knights Templar.
Perfectly located among the green hills of Provence, Chateau de l'Escarelle's vineyard is forever evolving and renewing itself. The property's 100 hectares of vines flourish in a beautiful protected green setting of 1,000 hectares.
The vines are planted on soil consisting of limestone pebbles, on terraces separated by dry-stone walls at an altitude of up to 500 metres, harmoniously following the shape of Escarelle's hills and montagne de la Loube.
This variation in altitude contributes to the terroir's special character, enabling the vinification of very expressive wines, thereby defining Escarelle's unique, sophisticated signature.
Their various grapes varieties, consisting of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Rolle and Caladoc have been carefully selected for each terroir, and each plot…The rosés, rich in Cinsault and Grenache, are fruity, elegant and sensual.
The estate's owner is deeply committed to preserving and bringing out the best in this natural environment that has so much potential, and has undertaken various projects, such as the restoration of existing buildings for wine and nature tourism, and also an organic certification of the entire estate.
Appellation: Coteaux Varois-en-Provence
Vinification: Exclusively harvested by hand and transported in crates. The grapes are sorted at each individual stage of the harvest. Grapes are selected and picked at the point of optimal ripeness. Gentle pressing cycle and cold stabilization over a period of several weeks before fermentation. The wine is vinified and kept on fine lees to really bring out the aromatic character of the wine.
