WHAT THE WINEMAKERS ARE SAYING
Blend of 90% Mourvedre and 10% Grenache.
“Having understood perfectly the soul of this exceptional terroir, Henri de Saint-Victor completely remade Chateau de Pibarnon and in doing so created a grand classic in Bandol, with a profundity and balance without equal in Provence….”
Bettane and Desseauve, Classification of the Best Wines of France, 2003
The breathtaking beauty of the Pibarnon vineyard and the originality of its exceptional terroir are gathered in the majesty of its wines.
The origin of the refinement and elegance of Pibarnon wines lies in its captivating site overlooking the Mediterranean, where the vines, planted on restanques (traditional Provençal dry-stone retaining walls) up to 300 metres above sea level, live in perfect symbiosis with a carefully preserved ecosystem and an exceptional local soil. Those factors on their own would justify the estate's classification as a "clos” or a "climate”, like the great wines of Burgundy.
Varieties : Mourvedre, Grenache
Goes perfectly well with colorful and inventive dishes full of sweet and rare spices. Asian cuisine, raw fish, garlic and white meat also go well together.2017 is far from the archetypical 'hot' vintage! The magic of the soil of course, as well as excellent quantities of water, due to the wet winter, have produced a great vintage. The 500 mm of rain that fell up to the end of April managed to get rid of the 2016 drought. Moderate grape production with a naturally low yield (around 30 hl per hectare, which is very little) and the handful of bunches per stem meant that the maturity levels were excellent. The high but deep soils were the finishing touches to the bright and elegant wines.
