WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING
“The 2015 Moulin a Vent was picked at 27 hectoliters per hectare from 27 August until 2 September and aged in 40% oak for 18 months. It has a clean and precise bouquet: blackberry, hints of blueberry and a touch of sage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is very well defined and harmonious, with the oak neatly integrated and delivering a sophisticated, lightly spiced finish. This is promising. From: France, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent” Neal Martin, Wine Advocate
The Château du Moulin-à-Vent has been a leading light of wine exploitation in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation since 1732. Located 10kms south from Macon, in the southernmost tip of the Burgundy region, it owes its name to the old windmill that stands on the top of the hill of “les Thorins”. Before 1936 and the creation of the AOC Moulin-à-Vent, the estate was called Château des Thorins. The estate now stretches over 37 Ha of vines belonging to the greatest terroirs of the appellation, like Le Champ de Cour, La Rochelle and Les Vérillats. Château du Moulin-à-Vent is owned by the Parinet family, who has embarked on an ambitious plan to further improve the quality of the wines.
70,000 vines have been replanted, while the winemaking and ageing cellars have been given a complete makeover to bring the facilities in line with the quality of the terroirs. The Parinet family also introduced a quality strategy, based on highlighting the individual characteristics of each of the major terroirs, resulting in the vinification of 4 individual wines that emphasise the often underestimated richness of the appellation. The estate also switched to reasoned agriculture since the Parinet family’s arrival.
