WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING

“This dark, ruby/purple wine from this famous fortified chateau is indicative of a higher level of quality emerging from this perennial underachiever. The 2012 exhibits nice, sweet black cherry, strawberry and currant fruit and spicy oak, earth and spice. It is elegant, medium-bodied and best drunk over the next 12-14 years. Kudos to proprietor Jean-Jacques de Bethmann for upgrading the performance of this estate.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

OUR NOTES

Olivier is a very old seigniory, dating back to the Middle Ages. It is said that the Black Prince enjoyed coming here to hunt, as the surrounding forests were so well-stocked in game. Since the 19th century, the estate has belonged to an old Bordeaux family in the shape of the Bethmanns. Château Olivier wines received official classification in 1953, for both red and white varieties.

Château Olivier is endowed with the rare characteristic of having terroirs which are equally excellent for red and white wines. Across 55 hectares of gravelly terroir over a clay and limestone base, six different grape varieties are grown.

The 2012 Vintage

Its colour is a beautiful bright red , the nose is very aromatic with notes of red fruits , licorice and spices. All the maturity of cabernet sauvignon is felt in the mouth with silky tannins that associates with the roundness of the Merlot . The palate is dense. A beautiful fruity length , this wine marks down by its balance and structure
