Domaine Bruno Clair - Marsannay - red - 2017 - 750 ml
WHAT THE WINEMAKERS ARE SAYING
"2017 vintage displays wines that are on the fruit but with a robust back neck. They will be enjoyable quite quickly. 2017 makes me think of 2011 vintage but with more depth. They are wines that express the pure aromas of the Pinot, of Burgundy's terroirs" Bruno Clair — January 2019
Bruno Clair, originally of Domaine Clair-Daü, has an impressive and extensive estate in one of the world’s most celebrated wine regions. Twenty-three hectares of Premier Cru, Grand Cru, village wine, red, white and rose; the vineyards stretch far and wide throughout the Côte de Nuits.
Bruno Clair is the grandson of Joseph Clair (1889-1971), originator of the famous Domaine Clair-Daü founded in Marsannay in 1919. Following Joseph’s death, family disagreements led to the dismantling of the Domaine, and Bruno was entrusted with the vineyards of his parents, brothers and sisters which included those of Clos de Bèze, Cazetiers, Clos St-Jacques, Vosne-Romanée, Clos du Fonteny and Chambolle- Musigny. More vineyards were later purchased by the estate.
With regard to viticulture, Domaine Bruno Clair believes in the total absence of chemical fertilizers and the exclusive use of compost. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the selection of the best grapes is carried out primarily in the vineyards. The grapes are partially destemmed before being put into open wood vats. The wines are then put into oak barrels (20-50% new) and transferred to the cellar.
Grape: 100% Pinot Noir
Terroir: Les Roseys, les Boivins, les Étalles and some small plots are vinified together to produce the domaine's red Marsannay
Viticulture: Lutte raisonnée. No insecticides or herbicides, and soils plowed regularly.
