Wine Region: Champagne - France
Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes: The light red robe displays peony hues with pink reflections. The visual palette is light and refreshing. The first nose is deep and fruity, revealing cherry and blackberry, as well as a hint of blackcurrant leaves on a slightly musky background. Upon aeration, the wine evolves towards more lactic (butter) and warmer notes (brandy).
The nose is straight and elegant, although still youthful for the moment. The attack on the palate is supple, almost mild, but the refreshing structure appears very quickly, and is later complemented by soft tannins and a smooth sensation. Eventually, the wine regains some freshness while offering a beautiful minerality and concludes its journey on a tense palate accompanied by firmer tannins. The finish is long (around 8 seconds of persistence), calcareous and tangy.
This elegant Coteau Champenois wine is utterly promising. Pair with gourmet raw ham, a long piece of meat such as a hanger steak, dark poultry (guinea fowl, duck) or medium-hard cheese.
"Full but fresh yellow with a nobly reductive nose. Very good weight of white fruit with a bit of crunchy apple into the bargain. A touch of heat behind which is soon swallowed up in the weight of the wine. Lovely aftertaste."

"The 2019 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru showed quite a heavy reduction on the nose that made it difficult to read. (Winemaker Brian Sieve explained that this has as much to do with the cellar in Meursault vis-à-vis Puligny as with winemaking decisions.) The palate is well balanced with a rounded entry smooth and harmonious offering tropical tones of apricot and nectarine. As with the Porusots I would have liked more mineralité and tension on the finish though there is satisfying length. (Drink between 2023-2038)"
About the winery:
Domaine Tellier is situated in Moussy, near Epernay, which is located between the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs in the very heart of the Champagne region.
Most of the plots are found midway up the slopes and spread over 5 villages. Each plot reflects a micro-terroir created by its location, topography and soil structure. To make the most of this diversity, they decided to vinify all the plots separately.
A new chapter in the château’s history was begun in 2014 when the property was acquired by the Moulin and Cathiard families, who have brought with them considerable enthusiasm and experience.
Terroir: Although chalk is at the foundation of the great Champagne terroirs, they have two different types of soil in their vineyards:
On these 13 plots, Pinot Meunier predominates (59%), followed by Chardonnay (35%) and a touch of Pinot Noir (6%). This terroir, with deep soil over a chalky bedrock, creates wines with structure, power and good length.
These 4 small plots are entirely planted with Chardonnay. The shallow soils sit over chalk that often breaks through to the surface. This terroir lends the wines elegance and minerality.
