WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING
“The 2017 Alpilles Rouge is flat-out delicious. Ripe, plummy and forward, the 2017 offers tremendous immediacy. If I didn’t know how well Trévallon ages, I would be tempted to set an earlier drinking window, but the best is clearly yet to come. Next to other vintages that display a good bit of ripeness, the 2017 remains medium in body and silky. Sweet red berry fruit, flowers, cedar and earthy notes lead into the vibrant, translucent finish. I hope I can capture just how captivating the 2017 is.” 95pts Vinous
Like his father, Eloi Durrbach studied architecture in Paris. Already in love with wine, he started to trade his artwork for wines from the Vignelaure Chateau, and dreamt of a winemaking experience with his wife on the Domaine of Trevallon. Georges Brunet from the Chateau de Vignelaure encouraged him to plant Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (the other consultants thought he should plant Mourvedre). In 1973 he planted his first vines, and soon thereafter closed his architecture firm, moved to Provence, and became a full-time vigneron.
Eloi chose to label his wines IGP, as he refused to adapt his blend to AOC regulation. ‘Alpilles Rouge’ is bold yet balanced, beloved for its structure, bright acidity, and serious potential to age. An absolute knockout with meat!
