WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING
“Clos des Fees Grenache Blanc Vieilles Vignes 2019 is a creamy white wine with a wonderful bouquet of citrus aromas, notes of crisp apples and floral nuances. On the palate it is full-bodied, rich and unctuous. A wine with a pleasant extract sweetness and a fresh acidic structure. It develops very well in the bottle after aging 3 to 6 years.”
“This aromatic blend of Grenache Blanc, Vermentino (aka Rolle), Roussanne and Macabeu is a wonderfully refreshing, citrusy and camomile-scented mineral white with sufficient weight to partner sardines, melon salads or lemon chicken.”
After owning a wine bar in Paris and working a few years as a wine journalist, Hervé Bizeul, a former “France’s Best Young Sommelier”, founded the Clos des Fées in 1998 with his wife. His idea was to produce a good wine for friends. The first vintage, created in his garage with very little investments, was a huge success immediately. Today, his wines are sold worldwide.
Clos des Fees Grenache Blanc Vieilles Vignes, which is made from Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris grapes from old vines, some of which are over 100 years old. These plots are spread throughout the valley and have clay soils over bedrock, with the vines sharing their space with holm oaks and garrigues. There is significant influence from the Tramontane wind and the Mediterranean sea breeze, and the vines are cultivated using traditional agriculture with manual harvesting and maximum attention to detail. When the grapes reach the winery, they are pneumatically pressed at low pressure. Then, the Grenache Blanc grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks and the Grenacha Gris ferments in old barrels. Finally, this cuvee ages on its lees for 5 to 8 months in oak barrels and is refined in the bottle.
The result is magical. Clos des Fees Grenache Blanc Vieilles Vignes is a refined, fresh and sumptuous wine. A wine of the “fairies” (fees is French for fairies) that undoubtedly reflects the mysterious charm of the place and the colourful character of this multifaceted winegrower.
