Egly-Ouriet - Blanc de Noirs - Vieilles Vignes - Champagne Grand Cru - 750 ml
WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING
“The NV Blancs de Noirs Vieilles Vignes is a broader-shouldered, more ambitious, full-bodied Champagne than the Non-Vintage Brut Vieilles Vignes. Backward and austere, it offers copious quantities of redcurrant fruit. It is intense, and beautifully pure (as are all these cuvees from Egly-Ouriet). Egly-Ouriet's Champagnes are so good that I have begun buying them to drink home. The new releases are gorgeous examples of just how rich Champagne can be without being too heavy or cumbersome.” Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
It was right after the second World War that the Egly House was born, when Francis Egly’s Grandfather started in the wine business. Today, the vineyard covers about 17 hectares, eight of which are located in Ambonnay and the rest in Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. Two thirds are planted of Pinot noir and the rest is shared between Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The soil is clay-limestone and benefits from a south-east exposure. All the work is reasoned farming. Depending on the harvest’s and the wine’s characteristics, Francis Egly, the current owner, varies the barrels in which the wine is going to age. He believes in the importance of letting every terroir express itself, instead of following a steady recipe.
Of the 150,000 bottles produced every year, only 100,000 are sold, and the rest are kept as reserve—today Egly-Ouriet has no less than 700,000 bottles in reserve.
