The NV Grand Cru Extra Brut V.P. (V.P. stands for Vieillissement Prolongé) is an assemblage of three vintages: one-third from 2009, one-third from 2008 and one-third from 2007. It's a blend of 70% Pinot Noir from Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay and 30% Chardonnay from Ambonnay. Disgorged in July 2017, after 84 months on the lees, this intensely yellow colored wine shows an intense and complex bouquet with deep and rich yet precise fruit and some mineral notes. This is a concentrated, minerally fresh and complex cuvée that has a firm structure and a refreshing finish. It is the same blend as the Tradition, but the combination of three vintages and two and a half more years of bottle aging adds complexity and structure. It was right after the second World War that the Egly House was born, when Francis Egly’s Grandfather started in the wine business. Today, the vineyard covers about 17 hectares, eight of which are located in Ambonnay and the rest in Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. Two thirds are planted of Pinot noir and the rest is shared between Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The soil is clay-limestone and benefits from a south-east exposure. All the work is reasoned farming. Depending on the harvest’s and the wine’s characteristics, Francis Egly, the current owner, varies the barrels in which the wine is going to age. He believes in the importance of letting every terroir express itself, instead of following a steady recipe.  

Of the 150,000 bottles produced every year, only 100,000 are sold, and the rest are kept as reserve—today Egly-Ouriet has no less than 700,000 bottles in reserve.
