WHAT THE WINEMAKERS ARE SAYING
“Bright ruby colour. Intense aromas of ripe red berries mixed with spices and a hint of vanilla. Complex and well-structured. Finely grained tannins. Well-integrated oak note. Long and intense aftertaste.” Domaine Chanson Père et Fils
5 ha owned exclusively in Premiers and Grands Crus, in the heart of Burgundy, in the most beautiful villages of Côte de Beaune: Santenay, Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet, Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand Vergelesses and Corton. Owner of 25 ha in the 10 most beautiful Beaune Premiers Crus, Domaine Chanson is rightly considered as one of the Premiers Crus specialists in Beaune.
The construction of this real defence tower was decided under Louis XI and achieved under François Ier. Built as a defence tower and classified as an historic monument with its 8-metres thick walls, it became the property of Chanson under the Revolution. The constant temperature and humidity guaranteed by its walls make it an ideal cellar. Today on 4 different levels, the fourth built in 1826, the Bastion Chanson is entirely dedicated to wine ageing. The first three house red wines where each floor is destined for a vintage. As for the fourth floor, it accommodates white wines. Vincent Avenel and Jean Pierre Confuron have a profound attachment to the Burgundy terroir. They share the same drive to defend the viticultural heritage of Chanson, whilst flying the flag high for the Burgundy region.
The Vintage 2017
The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode opens in the glass with a generous bouquet of wild berries, spices, grilled meat, dark chocolate and peonies. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a deep core of fruit, powdery structuring tannins and a sapid finish. As usual it's one of the estate's more structured offerings, but there's plenty of promise for the future here.
