Wine Region: Burgundy, Marsannay - France
Grape: 100% Pinot Noir | Lutte raisonnee, converting to organic
Tasting notes: Beautifully delicate and fine as ever but so much more concentrated and richer than usual. This opens with slick, effortless and fresh dark and red berry fruit; then notes of chambord and creme de mure reveal themselves through the mid palate. Textured and shapely. Veroilles is one of the highest vineyards in the commune producing tense, high-toned wines that retain that Chambolle charm and texture.
Located on two plots that were abandoned after the phylloxera crisis, until Bruno Clair replanted in 1989.
30% whole-cluster, indigenous yeast fermentation in open wooden tanks, minimal punch-downs and pump-overs (one each per day in general). Aged for 18 months in barrel (0-50% new).
About the winery:
One could say Bruno Clair is a vigneron’s vigneron. His wines are loved worldwide by everyone lucky enough to know them, and what’s truly impressive is the respect he garners within Burgundy, where his fellow growers consider him one of the greatest of their ranks.
Bruno produces wines that are loved for their purity of expression. They show no ego or even style, but just seem to be true to the essence of each individual vineyard.
