Mercurey

Mercurey is the largest and best-known appellation of Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise, producing predominantly red wine from Pinot Noir grown on limestone and clay soils similar to those of the Côte de Beaune further north. Sometimes nicknamed the "Côte de Beaune of the Côte Chalonnaise" for its structure and ageing potential, Mercurey punches well above the region's general reputation for simplicity.

The village boasts more Premier Crus than any other Côte Chalonnaise appellation, delivering firm, savoury Pinot Noir with genuine depth at a fraction of the price of comparable Côte de Beaune wines. A serious option for value-conscious Burgundy drinkers.
