Chateau Nenin
By Pomerol standards, Château Nénin is a large and historic estate, admired not only for its wines but also for its connection as a long-time favorite of the British Royal Family. Formerly owned by the Despujol family, the château entered a new era in 1997, when it was acquired by Jean-Hubert and Michel Delon of Château Léoville-Las Cases, ushering in a significant rise in quality and precision.
The property sits just outside the village of Catusseau, with its handsome 19th-century château surrounded by parkland and vineyards. Its southwest-facing plateau soils of deep gravel and sand provide the ideal terroir for Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%), yielding wines of depth, finesse, and balance.
Only 9 hectares of the best plateau vines are reserved for the Grand Vin, while the remaining 18 hectares produce the château’s acclaimed second wine, Fugue de Nénin. Vinified in stainless steel and aged 14–18 months in oak (about 30% new), Nénin combines ripe fruit, supple tannins, and structure, with the refinement and elegance typical of great Pomerol.
