Pernand Vergelesses

Pernand-Vergélesses sits on the northwestern slope of the Corton hill on Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, sharing in both the red Corton and white Corton-Charlemagne Grand Crus. Historically overshadowed by neighbouring Aloxe-Corton, the village has built a strong reputation among Burgundy insiders for producing excellent white wine — fresh, mineral Chardonnay from its cooler, higher-elevation vineyards.

The reds, too, show real promise: lighter and fresher than Aloxe-Corton's, with an aromatic lift that reflects the cooler exposure. Pernand-Vergélesses remains one of the Côte de Beaune's genuine value plays for both colours.
