Chambertin

Chambertin is Burgundy's most powerful and structured Grand Cru, the appellation Napoleon reportedly insisted on drinking before battle. Located in Gevrey-Chambertin on the Côte de Nuits, its 12.9 hectares are split between Chambertin itself and the adjoining Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, both entitled to the Chambertin name. The deep, iron-rich limestone soils produce Pinot Noir of exceptional density and longevity — dark-fruited, structured, and built to age for decades rather than years.

Growers here farm some of the most valuable vineyard land in the world, and yields are kept deliberately low to concentrate flavour. A young Chambertin can be austere and tannic; given a decade or more in the cellar, it unfolds into one of the most profound expressions of Pinot Noir anywhere on earth.
