Beaune

Beaune gives its name to Burgundy's Cote de Beaune and has served as the historic wine capital of the region for centuries — home to the Hospices de Beaune and its famous annual charity wine auction. Despite its size and prominence, Beaune has no Grand Cru, but it boasts an extensive roster of Premier Crus, including Les Grèves, Les Teurons, and Clos des Mouches, the latter also producing a small amount of highly regarded white wine.

The wines are classically elegant Pinot Noir — medium-bodied, red-fruited, and approachable earlier than the more powerful wines of Pommard or Gevrey-Chambertin — making Beaune an excellent, food-friendly entry point into Burgundy.
