Wine region: Bordeaux

Grape:84.7% Merlot and 15.3% Cabernet Franc

Tasting note:Château Quintus is the 5th child within the Domaine Clarence Dillon family of wines. Its name is a tribute to the Gallo-Romans, creators of Saint-Emilion’s vineyards, who had the custom of naming their fifth child Quintus.

Quintus is a deep red colour with crimson highlights. The bouquet is powerful, intense and complex, and bursting with notes of ripe, black fruit, particularly blackcurrant. Spicy, subtle overtones are already perceptible. Starts out broad-based and fleshy, with a remarkably caressing sensation, becoming full-bodied, with smooth, creamy fine-grained tannins mid-palate. The finish is long, without any hardness whatsoever. A perfect marriage between Merlot and Cabernet Franc, whereby the qualities of each grape variety are expressed to the full. This 2019 Quintus is clearly a tremendous success.

About the winery:Château Quintus was born from the union of the Château Tertre Daugay and Château L’Arrosée terroirs, respectively acquired by the family company Domaine Clarence Dillon in 2011 and in 2013. Château Quintus is thus the fifth property of the Domaine Clarence Dillon group, alongside the Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The estate takes its name from the Gallo-Roman tradition of naming one's fifth child Quintus. The 28-hectare vineyard of this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is unique in its mosaic of terroirs. Aged 30 years on average, the vines are planted on a plateau upon a succession of south-facing limestone layers, as well as on south-facing clay-limestone and gravelly soils at the north of the estate.
