Grand Cru is the highest classification in Burgundy's vineyard hierarchy, awarded to just 33 individual climats out of thousands across the region — representing barely 1% of all Burgundy production. These are the vineyards long recognised, in some cases for centuries, as producing wine of exceptional and consistent quality: Chambertin, Musigny, Romanée-Conti, Montrachet, Clôs de Vougeot, and their peers.
