White Corton is one of Burgundy's great undersung pleasures, and Comte Senard's 2022 is a reminder of why the hill deserves more attention than it typically receives. The nose is expressive from the first moment: hawthorn and lime blossom, white-fleshed fruits, toasted hazelnut and a delicate undercurrent of spice, all rendered with the kind of precision that only Grand Cru terroir reliably delivers. The palate arrives with authority, rich and supple, before settling into a creamy, silky texture that carries ripe pear, almond, and a suggestion of brioche. Up to half new oak over twelve to sixteen months in barrel has added depth and structure without obscuring the wine's natural freshness, the acidity remaining bright and well-integrated throughout. The finish is long, mineral, and quietly insistent. This is white Burgundy that earns its title without announcing it.
More About The Winery
Founded in 1857 by Jules Senard, Domaine Comte Senard is a historic Burgundy estate best known for its Corton-Clos des Meix Monopole, which became a Grand Cru vineyard in 1937 with the creation of the AOC. Over five generations, the domaine has expanded to encompass 22 acres of prestigious terroirs, including Corton-Clos du Roi, Corton-Bressandes, and Corton-Paulandes — jewels of the northern Côte de Beaune.
The wines of Corton are renowned for their depth, power, and longevity, and Domaine Comte Senard captures this essence with remarkable precision. Today, the estate is led by Lorraine Senard, who continues her family’s tradition while bringing a fresh, modern vision. She practices sustainable, organic viticulture, hand-harvesting with meticulous sorting to preserve the integrity of the fruit.
In the cellar, winemaking respects tradition with a cold soak, gentle pressing, and temperature-controlled fermentation, followed by ageing in the domaine’s 14th-century cellars built by Benedictine monks. The result is a range of wines that are seductive, structured, and built to age with grace, showcasing the full power and finesse of Corton’s terroir.
