Premier Cru Burgundy

Premier Cru sits just below Grand Cru in Burgundy's vineyard classification, encompassing around 640 individually named climats across the region — roughly 10% of total production. Far from a consolation prize, many Premier Crus (Les Amoureuses in Chambolle-Musigny, Les Saint-Georges in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Perrières in Meursault) are considered by growers themselves to rival neighbouring Grand Crus in quality, sitting just outside the classification for reasons of history as much as terroir.
