Tasting notes
Made entirely with whole clusters in 2022, which shape its character in youth. The nose shows black cherries, bilberry and oyster-shell scents, beautifully poised with impressive minerality. The palate is powerful yet precise, with a firm, iron-tinged structure and great length. In magnum it will age even more slowly and gracefully; decant if opening young and serve with beef, lamb or game.
About the Winery
Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic family estates of the Côte d'Or, founded in Volnay in the 18th century. Hubert de Montille made it one of Burgundy's reference domaines, and today his children Étienne and Alix run the estate, which is farmed biodynamically.
Les Rugiens-Bas, the lower and iron-rich part of Pommard's most famous Premier Cru, was always a favourite of Hubert de Montille. The domaine's vines here are around 55 years old and produce one of its most complete and long-lived wines.
