Some wines are made every year. Tiano & Nareno is made only when the vintage deserves it. In twenty years, only a handful of vintages have been released, each one in tiny quantities and each one quickly gone.
The 2022 is the latest, and our allocation is limited. Pre-order now to secure your bottles ahead of their arrival in Singapore.
The Story
In 1908, two young Italians left home for Argentina. Sebastiano Accorrà, known as Tiano, came from Sardinia. Nazzareno Savina, known as Nareno, came from Umbria. Both settled at the foot of the Andes in Mendoza, where they planted vines and made wine.
A century later, their grandson Ariel Savina, a cancer researcher based in Paris, brought the family vineyard back to life. He began in 2005 and released the first vintage in 2010, naming the wine after the two grandfathers who started it all.
The Vineyard
Location: Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, at around 1,000 metres above sea level
Size: seven hectares of family vines
Vine age: Malbec vines averaging over 80 years, some more than a century old, and Cabernet Franc averaging 65 to 70 years
Production: only 4,000 to 5,000 bottles in the years a vintage is released
These old vines give wines of depth and finesse. The style is closer to a great European red than to the powerful Malbec many people expect from Argentina.
The 2022 Vintage
Blend: Malbec, with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc
Vineyard: old family vines in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, at around 1,000 metres
Winemaking: whole-bunch fermentation, around 15 days of maceration in stainless steel, then no more than six months in French oak barrels (up to 50% new)
The vintage
2022 was a demanding year in Mendoza, with heat spikes and irregular rainfall. The family only releases a vintage when the fruit is exceptional. The 2022 made the cut.
Tasting note
Deep, vibrant purple in the glass. The nose opens on blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry, then moves to spice, violet, vanilla and toasted oak, with a light herbal lift. The palate balances intensity and restraint: dark berries, plum, dark chocolate and liquorice, framed by fine, powdery tannins and bright, refreshing acidity. The finish is long and persistent.
