Tasting notes
Powerful and unapologetically structured, the Pillot 'Rugiens' Pommard 1er Cru 2023 is a wine that announces its pedigree from the first pour. Rugiens is Pommard's most celebrated premier cru for good reason, its iron-rich soils producing Pinot Noir of uncommon density and depth. Concentrated cherry and raspberry on the nose, with the promise of pepper, licorice, and eucalyptus complexity waiting to emerge with time. The tannins are firm and present, built for the long haul, yet balanced enough to reveal the elegance beneath. A serious, age-worthy Burgundy from a domaine that handles this terroir with authority.
More About The Winery
With roots tracing back to the 17th century in Chassagne-Montrachet, the Pillot family has been deeply linked to Burgundy’s winemaking tradition. Originally coopers producing barrels, the family shifted its focus to the vine in the 19th century, gradually expanding their holdings on the prestigious slopes of Chassagne-Montrachet.
Today, under the guidance of Fernand and his son Laurent, the domaine spans 14.8 hectares across 22 appellations, with prized parcels in Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard, Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay, and Beaune. This wide mosaic of terroirs allows the Pillots to craft wines that are both precise and expressive, showcasing the diversity and elegance of Burgundy.
From refined Chardonnays that display mineral purity and tension, to silky, structured Pinot Noirs, Domaine Fernand et Laurent Pillot is celebrated for producing wines that combine tradition, balance, and terroir authenticity.
