Château Sociando Mallet

Located in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, just north of Saint-Estèphe in the Haut-Médoc, Château Sociando-Mallet is one of Bordeaux’s most respected Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnels, renowned for producing wines that rival classified growths in quality.

The estate’s modern reputation was forged in 1969, when Jean Gautreau acquired the neglected 7-hectare property and transformed it into one of the Médoc’s finest. Today, the vineyard spans 57 hectares overlooking the Gironde Estuary, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (10%), and Petit Verdot (5%).

Winemaking is traditional yet meticulous: grapes are hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats, and aged for 12–15 months in 70–90% new oak barrels. Wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving purity and ageing potential.

The style of Sociando-Mallet is resolutely classic Médoc — structured, firm, and deeply fruited, with remarkable freshness and longevity. These are wines built to age, often delivering complexity and refinement after decades in bottle.
