Roc des Cambes
Created in the late 1980s by the visionary François Mitjavile (of Tertre Roteboeuf fame), Roc de Cambes has become one of the most admired estates in the Côtes de Bourg. Perched on a south-facing amphitheater of clay-limestone slopes overlooking the Gironde, the terroir mirrors that of Saint-Émilion, giving the wines remarkable depth and ageing potential.
The vineyard spans 12 hectares, planted mainly to Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec completing the blend. Like its famous Right Bank sibling, Tertre Roteboeuf, Roc de Cambes is crafted in Mitjavile’s signature style: opulent, velvety, and seductive wines with layers of ripe fruit, spice, and an unmistakable sense of place.
Low yields, late harvests, and careful élevage in oak barrels (often 50–100% new) result in wines that are lush, complex, and long-lived, consistently outperforming their humble appellation. Roc de Cambes is widely regarded as a true insider’s wine — offering the soul of a grand cru at exceptional value.
