The Domain

Le Clos des Grives was created in 1962 by Mr. Gaston CHARBONNIER, a pioneer in organic viticulture. In 1968, Le Clos des Grives was the first Jura estate to be awarded the label (by the Nature et Progrès association, which itself had been created in 1964). Claude CHARBONNIER, on the death of his father in 1982, took over and continued to cultivate the vineyard while respecting the environment. In 2007 , Claude CHARBONNIER did not have any children interested in taking over the business, so he decided to sell his business to François PETITE. The latter invested in 2011 in a building to house the vat room and outbuildings.

In April 2017 , Benoît MULIN, his cousin Christophe MULIN, and a few other shareholders acquired this estate.

The Style

The slopes are gentle on the Clos des Grives hillside. The altitude is between 330 and 350 meters. The general exposure is South and South-West. The vines benefit from optimal exposure with an extraordinary terroir (Triassic limestone marl) which allows for excellent nectars. Rainfall is high, but at the same time, it is well distributed throughout the year. Climate change has led to earlier harvests. In the 1980s, the harvest began between October 1 and 20. Over the last ten years, we have used the "vendangettes" in August (in 2017 in particular) Clos des Grives has more than four hectares in AOC Côtes-du-Jura. The five Jura grape varieties are vinified in the cellar, namely Chardonnay and Savagnin for the whites, Pinot Noir, Poulsard and Trousseau for the reds. (manual harvest).
