Puligny-Montrachet is widely regarded as the pinnacle of white Burgundy, home to Le Montrachet itself along with three other Grand Crus — Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. The village's Chardonnay is defined by extraordinary precision: taut, mineral, and layered, with an almost electric tension that sets it apart from the richer, rounder style of neighbouring Meursault.
