Wine Region: Bordeaux - France
Grape: Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
Tasting notes: "The 2014 Maucaillou put in a good performance when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle, it builds on that promise with a fresh and vital bouquet: blackberry, tobacco and graphite to the fore, vibrant and engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp and lively entry, well-judged acidity and fine tannin. It is not a dense wine, not a Moulis of immense body, but it has great length and real finesse. This comes recommended." Neal Martin

About the Winery:Chateau Maucaillou takes its name from an ancient expression, a contraction of "mauvais" and "caillou". It refers to the Garonne gravel of the Guntz, a glacial period. If these soils are not favorable to cereals and other crops, for the vine, it is a delight. The castle was built in 1875 in a privileged geographical location: between Margaux and Saint Julien, in the commune of Moulis, in the heart of the Haut-Médoc.
In 1929 Roger and Andre Dourthe bought Chateau Maucaillou and its 2.5 hectares of vines and created a few years later the now flourishing trading company C.V.B.G. Roger and his son Philippe increased the surface area of the vineyard to 90 hectares. Today, it is Pascal Dourthe, assisted by his sisters Caroline and Magali, who is at the head of the estate to continue the family saga.
The nearly 90 hectares are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (52%), Merlot (41%) and Petit Verdot (7%).
