Expert Rating:

94-97 points Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
"The Clos e Bèze returned a full crop of 35 hl/ha. Crimson purple, a light reduction fractionally hides the fruit on the nose for the moment. Magical on the palate, raspberry and roses, a slightly eggy touch at the back from the late malolactic fermentation, I think. A little more structure behind and great length. A very complete wine. Drink from 2029-2040."

95 points Tim Atkin

95 points Decanter
"This wine shows intense concentration and depth, with superbly ripe currant and black cherry fruit with great complexity, showing notes of violets and game, mineral and menthol, baking spice, and truffle. The texture is firm but not unyielding, although there is a formidable amount of tannic grip here and bright, fresh acidity that drive the wine to a lingeringly elegant finish. Two-thirds of the grapes are from vines first planted in 1912; the balance was planted in 1972. 30% whole clusters, ageing now in 40% new casks. Incredible wine in a tough year. (Drink between 2027-2055)"

94-97 points Vinous
"The 2021 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru, which contains 40%-50% whole bunches, has great clarity with brambly red fruit, briary, crushed rocks and sea spray. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, focused though it needs the second winter to bid everything together and fine-tune those tannins. Nice build in the mouth and insistent grip. I like the cut of its jib. (Drink between 2027-2048)"

93-96 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
" A pungent nose of firm reduction and relatively prominent wood precedes simply gorgeously textured big-bodied and powerful flavors that are blessed with an abundance of sappy dry extract that coats the palate as well as the very firm tannins that shape the hugely long, balanced and youthfully austere finale. This is superb with class and an innate poise. (Drink starting 2036)"

About the Winery:Bruno Clair is the son of Bernard Clair (1920-2005) and the grandson of Joseph Clair (1889-1971), originator of the famous Domaine ClairDaü which was founded in Marsannay in 1919.

Following Joseph’s death, family disagreements led to the dismantling of the Domaine Clair-Daü in 1985. In 1986, Bruno was entrusted with the vineyards of his parents, brothers and sisters which included those of Clos de Bèze, Cazetiers, Clos Saint-Jacques, Vosne-Romanée, Clos du Fonteny and Chambolle-Musigny. More vineyards were purchased by Bruno Clair in 1993, including Corton-Charlemagne, Pernand Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. In 1996, Gevrey-Chambertin "Petite Chapelle" was added to bring the size of the Domaine to more than 23 hectares.

Bruno is working with his wife Isabelle and his son Edouard joined the Domaine in 2012. Very involved in the vine cultivation, Edouard is progressively converting the Domaine to organic production. In 2018, Bruno & Isabelle's second son Arthur joined the Domaine and he will work on the commercial dimension.
