Wine Region: Bordeaux - France
Grape: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot
Tasting notes: "Aged in 50% new French oak barrels and blended of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Fonbadet offers up expressive notions of warm plums, blackberries and kirsch plus unsmoked cigars and spice cake scents with a waft of dusty soil. Medium-bodied and laden with juicy black fruits plus loads of spicy accents, it has a finely grained, approachable texture and great length." Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Expert ratings: Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 91/100
About the Winery:
Fonbadet is a vineyard which is close to the greatest wines of Bordeaux: Mouton Rothschild, Lynch-Bages, Latour, Pichon Baron or Pichon Comtesse. It is still today the property of the Peyronie family. With a history of winemaking dating back to 1700, it relies on illustrious members who have contributed to the development of the vineyard and the quality of the wines. One of Pascale's great-great-grandfather (Peyronie) was the steward of Chateau Lafite. She has been managing the Pauillac estate since the 2000 vintage.
With an average age of 50 years, the vines give one of the lowest yields in the Pauillac appellation, naturally. No insecticides or weed killers are used to preserve the soil.
The vinification is done in thermo-regulated concrete vats. The wine is aged in French oak barrels with 40% new wood and lasts between 16 and 18 months.
