Wine Region: Alsace - Bollenberg - France
Grape: 100% pinot noir.
Tasting notes: "The 2015 Pinot Noir Bollenberg Harmonie is intense and ripe on the very deep and generous yet also fine and mineral nose that exhibits plum, cinnamon, mocha and even red berry (strawberry) aromas, which are intertwined with the purity, finesse and freshness of the iron-loaded limestone soils of the Bollenberg. Silky textured and remarkably fresh on the palate, this is a full-bodied and dense yet fresh and finessed Pinot with great tension and surprising purity and elegance for 2015. In fact, the Harmonie unites the purity and freshness of the Luft parcel with the power and warmth of the Neuberg plot, which have been separated for the 2016 and for all of the following vintages. This is a gorgeous, intense and textured Pinot Noir with a fresh and sustainable finish that again refers to wild strawberry notes in the aftertaste.
PS: The wine was still vibrantly fresh and energetic when tasted from the half-emptied bottle eight days later. Not sure many Burgundies would be able to stand up to this challenge!" Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
Expert Rating: Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 95/100.
About the winery: Marie Zusslin and her brother, Jean-Paul, began working alongside their father, Jean-Marie, and grandfather, Valentin, in 2000. For ten years the three generations worked together in the same house/winery established by their ancestors in 1671.
Today, Marie and Jean-Paul share the lead responsibilities in the cellar and the vineyard following the holistic approach established by their father, whom began practicing biodynamic farming in 1997.
The Zusslins farm a number of terroirs close to their home village of Orschwihr: Clos Liebenberg, Bollenberg, and Pfingstberg. Their concern for nature creates beautiful wines full of vitality.
