Tasting notes: The nose is fruity, fresh and offers a beautiful ripe and juicy fruit. It reveals notes of cassis, blackberry and liquorice associated with subtle hints of redcurrant, fine notes of spices as well as discreet hints of flowers, toasted, vanilla and a hint of racy minerality/flint. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a beautiful juiciness, a beautiful freshness, a small fat, a fine concentration as well as a small tension. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy blackberry, juicy cassis and more slightly juicy wild strawberry, fresh raspberry associated with fine touches of toasted oak, liquorice as well as a subtle hint of chocolate (in the background), oak and a very discreet hint of nut on the finish. Tannins are fine and very slightly firm. Good length."

Expert Rating: 91 - 92/100, VertdeVin

About the winery: Located entirely within the appellation of Saint-Julien, the vineyard stretches in a single block over two North-South rises of Gunzian gravelly soil. In parts large and coarse and in others finer, this gravel is combined with sand or iron-rich clay depending on the plot. With an altitude of 24 metres, the centre of the domain marks the highest point of Saint-Julien. The estate covers 182 hectares (450 acres), of which 118 hectares (292 acres) are under vine.

The Japanese group Suntory acquired the domain in1983, they fully renovated and reconstructed the estate for 20 years. Today, Matthieu Bordes and Keiichi Shiina have taken over Chateau Lagrange. They have undertaken an evolution of production methods towards a greater awareness of the environment and a reduction of ecological impact on the property. This philosophy is reflected not only in the respect shown for the domain’s History, and the nurturing of its truly exceptional Terroir, but also in the unique experiences shared all over the world around a glass of one of Lagrange’s wines.

The second wine of the property was established in 1985 following the acquisition by Suntory group.
