Wine Region: Burgundy - France
Grape: Pinot Noir (100%)
Tasting notes: 'Gorgeous deep red in colour. The nose is expressive and complex, redolent of ripe cherry and fruit jellies (blackcurrant), underpinned by a balsamic note of pine resin and a whisper of smoke, which lends a touch of wildness to the wine. Scents of bark, brambles and damp earth after a storm are followed by aromas of fine wood (oak) and a hint of Russian leather. Lovely start to the palate, which features pleasing acidity and nice concentration. This is a very promising wine, rich and complex, endowed with lovely tannins that are still slightly angular but will round themselves out over time.'
About the winery: The Delaunay story is absolutely unique!
25 years earlier, the Delaunay family sold the family premium wine estate. A couple of years ago, Laurent Delaunay, the 5th generation of a family of winemakers and négociants, is re-appropriating his family’s history!
After a few years of intense work at the cellar by Laurent, we can tell : Delaunay is back on the very front of the scene with nicest appellations, superb juices.
The Revival of the House
The revival of the House of Edouard Delaunay began three years ago when Laurent, great grandson of the founder, bought back the winery, brand and cellar and added them to Chateau de Charmont, in the Hautes Cotes de Nuits, purchased in 2007.
His ambition has been to return it to its former glory and make Edouard Delaunay a leading Burgundian wine house once more. He has done that, and then some!
Purity and precision are the two keywords for us. My philosophy is really: listening, reading the terroir and the vines’ condition, trying to understand, and gently accompanying the natural evolution of the wine.
The 3 IWC trophy of best wine maker won by Christophe Briotet, the wine maker of Maison Edouard Delaunay. He is the only one in the world to have one such trophy for 3 consecutive years.
