Wine Region: Mendoza - Argentina
Grapes: Malbec (100%)
Tasting notes: Color: Ruby red in color glinting with violet, the wine is astonishingly bright in the glass.
Nose: The nose is immediately captivating, with the underlying complexity and restrained power of the greatest red wines. In just a few minutes, this sense of reserve is transformed into a floral bouquet and classic fine wine aromas. Ripe fruits, black cherries, and prunes come to the fore, alongside the violet perfume beloved of Malbec. A waft of capsicum hints subtly at the presence of Cabernet Franc.
Taste: The palate swells with power and great complexity. Voluptuous but graceful nonetheless, the wine retains a sense of freshness that enlivens the senses. Skilfully wrought, the wine’s gentle tannins and oak integration are the result of careful extraction and maturation techniques.
About the winery:
20-year-old Sebastiano Accorrà, known as Tiano, and 18-year-old Nazzarreno Savina known as Nareno left their native Italy in 1908 and arrived in the region of Mendoza, a land where vines had been cultivated at the foot of the imposing Andean Mountains for hundreds of years.
Tiano and Nareno devoted their lives to working the land and growing vines. They were passionate about tradition and had a great love for work well done. The land, climate and vines of Mendoza held no secrets for them. It took over five years to identify and select the region’s best plots of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the very same plots that Tiano and Nareno loved so much and talked of so often.
With only 880 magnums produced in 2010, this is truly Argentina’s best kept secret that Altaya Wines has newly introduced to the world of wine lovers.
