Wine Region: Burgundy - France

Grape: 100% Pinot noir.

Tasting notes: Ruby red color. With a perfumed nose of rose, pumpkin and granite. Good, consistent texture with soft tannins. Very well balanced with softness and freshness of flavors, with hints of black berries, blueberries and persistent finish.

Expert Ratings:

Vinuous 94 / 100

“The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a seriously compelling bouquet: beautifully defined, effortless and refined, featuring black rather than red fruit, crushed stone and discreet undergrowth aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. There is a stern backbone to this Bonnes-Mares, which is stricter than many of its peers, the blue fruit clearly rationed, but with impressive persistence on the finish. Impressive and intellectual to boot.”  - Neal Martin 92 / 100

This is also aromatically quite cool and elegant while weaving notes of a plethora of floral elements with those of red cherry, raspberry and warm earth. The equally large-scaled flavors possess a quite supple yet impressively dense mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the very powerful, dusty and overtly austere finale that displays a hint of dryness. At present this is somewhat strict and note well that my rating offers the benefit of the doubt that the finish will better harmonize in time. As such, this will not make for especially good early drinking.” - Allen Meadows

About the Winery: Bruno Clair is the son of Bernard Clair (1920-2005) and the grandson of Joseph Clair (1889-1971), originator of the famous Domaine ClairDaü which was founded in Marsannay in 1919.

Following Joseph’s death, family disagreements led to the dismantling of the Domaine Clair-Daü in 1985. In 1986, Bruno was entrusted with the vineyards of his parents, brothers and sisters which included those of Clos de Bèze, Cazetiers, Clos Saint-Jacques, Vosne-Romanée, Clos du Fonteny and Chambolle-Musigny. More vineyards were purchased by Bruno Clair in 1993, including Corton-Charlemagne, Pernand Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. In 1996, Gevrey-Chambertin "Petite Chapelle" was added to bring the size of the Domaine to more than 23 hectares.

Bruno is working with his wife Isabelle and his son Edouard joined the Domaine in 2012. Very involved in the vine cultivation, Edouard is progressively converting the Domaine to organic production. In 2018, Bruno & Isabelle's second son Arthur joined the Domaine and he will work on the commercial dimension.
