Wine Region: Rhone Valley - France
Grape:Bourboulenc
Tasting notes:The 2023 Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is an elegant and balanced white wine with a pale gold hue and green tints. It offers a complex bouquet of lemon, pear, almonds, honeysuckle, jasmine, mango, and subtle toasted wood notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and multi-layered, with a crisp texture and a long, persistent finish. The wine is crafted from a blend of Roussanne (44%), Grenache Blanc (41%), Clairette (11%), and Bourboulenc (4%), and is aged on fine lees for nine months in a combination of French oak barrels, demi-muids, and stainless steel tanks. This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc pairs well with dishes such as scallop risotto, sea bream ceviche, cod with cucumber-mustard vegetables, or an omelette with salmon and fennel.
About the winery:
For five centuries, the history of Château La Nerthe and Châteauneuf-du-Pape have melded into one.
After leaving Châteauneuf-du-Pape, head south about 2 km, then go up the alley that winds between vines, evergreen oaks, cypresses, and olive trees to Château La Nerthe, nestled among majestic plane trees and hundred-year-old pines.
To the west, the Rhône as it continues its course towards the Mediterranean, less than 100km to the south. To the east is Mont Ventoux, the giant of Provence from the top of its 1912 m. To the south, Avignon city of the Popes. To the north, Orange, a Roman town with its ancient theater and Roman triumphal arch.
