Pinot Noir (100%)
Tasting notes
Opens with expressive floral aromas of peony and violets, interwoven with wild redcurrant, black cherry, and a touch of forest floor and black pepper. On the palate, it is structured and energetic, with finely grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a core of juicy dark fruit. A mineral, saline backbone adds tension and depth, leading to a long, focused finish. This is a poised and elegant Grand Cru with both power and finesse, promising excellent aging potential.

"100% whole bunch vinification. A bright deep purple. The bouquet suggests dark fruit but is rather more backward. Tightly wound, salty as well as peppery, a mix of dark berries, tannins which currently come across as a little dry. Not completely coherent today, but may prove to be better than this rating. "The 2022 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru, 90% whole clusters that went through malo in June, has an expressive bouquet with redcurrant, black cherries, touches of damp forest floor and black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and bright black fruit, very well balanced with a crunchy texture. There’s impressive salinity on the finish that lingers in the mouth. Classic in style, this is an excellent Corton Clos du Roi. Drink: 2027-2045. (Jan 2024)"

"This dense, powerful wine has robust tannins and an impressively substantial texture, yet it is not lacking fruit. The forward, accessible blackberry aromas are scented with smoke, black tea, and floral notes. The grapes come from 0.83 hectares in the centre of this climat – arguably among the finest locations in Corton. The grapes are entirely fermented as whole clusters in 2022 but with a gentle extraction and are now ageing in cask with a modest amount of new wood. Drinking Window: 2027-2055. (5/30/23)"
