The Domain
Château La Genestière is the living memory of Avignon’s rich history.
In the 16th century, the estate was a magnanery (silkworm farm). The water basin, still visible today, once powered the mill for weaving silk. At the time, the land was cultivated with textile broom (Spartium junceum), known as Spanish broom. By the 18th century, this silk industry employed over 15,000 people in Avignon, and France was the world’s leading exporter of silk.

The Style
The estate’s winemaking story began in 1930, following the decline of sericulture. In 1994, Jean-Claude and Raphaël Garcin acquired the property, which already enjoyed a strong reputation both in France and abroad. Over the years, through hard work, perseverance, and expertise, the Domaine expanded to include Saint-Anthelme, Les Ramières, and Longval, now covering the prestigious appellations of Tavel, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac, and Côtes du Rhône.
In 2015, Château La Genestière was purchased by Christian Latouche, already the owner of two estates in Les Baux-de-Provence, with the ambition to further enhance and share the estate’s exceptional heritage with the world.
