Tasting notes
Deep garnet with bluish tints. The nose is floral and fragrant, with iris, peony and cherry, and the palate combines fresh red fruit with minerality and fine, silky tannins. Elegant and structured, it reflects the volcanic soils of Mont Brouilly. Serve slightly cool with charcuterie, roast poultry or grilled pork.
About the Winery
Château Thivin is the benchmark estate of the Côte de Brouilly, set on the slopes of Mont Brouilly, an ancient volcano in Beaujolais. In 1877 Zaccharie Geoffray bought the property at auction along with the 2 hectares of vines surrounding it, and successive generations of the Geoffray family have since grown the estate to around 29 hectares.
Le Clos is that original walled vineyard around the château, at the foot of Mont Brouilly. Facing south-west, its deeper soils combine pink granite with the blue volcanic rock of the hill. The estate is certified organic and works with minimal intervention in the cellar.
