Tasting notes
A complex nose of fruit and spice. The palate is fruity, mineral, fresh and precise, with a good balance between richness and acidity and just a restrained touch of the Jura's signature wildness. Enjoyable now, it can also age for many years, gaining toasty, brioche-like complexity. Serve chilled but not too cold, as you would a fine white Burgundy, with poultry in cream sauce, fish or Comté.
About the Winery
Le Clos des Grives is a small, historic estate in Chille, just outside Lons-le-Saunier in the Jura, founded in 1962 by Gaston Charbonnier. It was one of the Jura's early pioneers of organic farming, long before organic wine became mainstream. After the Charbonnier family sold the vineyards in 2007, the estate passed to new owners, and today it is run by Benoît Mulin and his cousin Christophe Mulin.
The vines grow on hillsides at around 330 to 350 metres, and the estate is named after the thrush (grive), a berry-loving bird that is the star of the domaine — “Musicienne” refers to the song thrush. Its wines, from Chardonnay and Savagnin whites to Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir reds, are admired for their freshness, character and precision.
