Grape
100% Chenin Blanc
Tasting notes
Golden yellow in the glass, with a delicate nose of white flowers, white fruit and citrus. The palate is fresh, expressive and mineral, with a supple, textured attack and the depth of old-vine Savennières Chenin. A wine that rewards air: open it ahead of time and serve not too cold, around 12 to 14°C, with roast poultry, river fish in butter sauce or mild cheeses.
About the Winery
The Joly family owns the legendary Clos de la Coulée de Serrant, a 7-hectare walled vineyard in Savennières that is so distinctive it has its own appellation. Nicolas Joly became one of the world's great pioneers of biodynamic farming, converting the Coulée de Serrant in 1981 and the whole estate by 1984, and today his daughter Virginie runs the domaine.
Clos de la Bergerie is the estate's wine from the neighbouring appellation of Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines, grown on gentle east-facing slopes. Made in small quantities, it offers a slightly more approachable expression of the family's intense, long-lived Chenin Blanc.
