Tasting notes
The 2022 Yann Chave Hermitage Rouge is a powerful yet impeccably elegant expression of the appellation, displaying a deep, intense garnet colour with brilliant violet and ruby highlights. The bouquet, initially discreet, unfolds beautifully with aeration to reveal layers of ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, black plum, and violet, enriched by graphite, exotic spices, black pepper, and a subtle menthol lift. On the palate, the wine opens with freshness before expanding into a full-bodied, generously structured mid-palate. Its texture is dense, velvety, and deeply layered, supported by finely grained, youthful tannins. Pure black fruit, noble spices, licorice, and a delicate saline touch bring radiance and depth. The finish is long, vibrant, and focused, carried by persistent freshness and a refined, polished texture—promising remarkable aging potential.
More About The Winery
Located in the heart of the northern Rhône, Domaine Yann Chave has built a reputation for producing wines of purity, precision, and finesse. Originally founded by Yann’s parents, the estate took a new direction when Yann Chave left a career in finance to join the family domaine in the 1990s, bringing a fresh vision while preserving tradition.
Today, the estate spans vineyards in Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage, planted mainly to Syrah, alongside parcels of Marsanne and Roussanne for white wines. Certified organic, the domaine emphasizes meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and minimal intervention in the cellar to craft wines that express the full character of their terroir.
The reds are known for their silky textures, vibrant fruit, and peppery spice, while the whites show balance, freshness, and floral elegance. From the approachable Crozes-Hermitage to the monumental Hermitage Rouge, Yann Chave’s wines are admired by sommeliers and collectors alike.
