'A hidden gem that emerges from the cellar of Tertre Roteboeuf, the 2017 Roc De Cambes comes from a vineyard in the Cotes de Bourg region of Bordeaux, which is located north of Fronsac. It’s a superstar effort that boasts a deep purple hue as well as sumptuous notes of creme de cassis, white flowers, candle wax, and graphite. A powerful, full-bodied 2017 with plenty of background oak, a seamless texture, and a rare mix of power and elegance, count me impressed. It’s going to evolve for 10-15 years or more. Don’t miss a chance to grab a bottle if you can. '

The 2017 Roc de Cambes is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. Rich, dense and explosive, with tremendous power the 2017 is positively stellar from the very first taste. Macerated dark cherries, sage, spice, star anise, orange zest, mint and new leather give the 2017 an exotic, racy feel that is hard to fully describe. In the glass, the 2017 possesses off the charts aromatic intensity and tons of pure fruit richness, while the 100% new oak is barely perceptible. Readers lucky enough to find it will enjoy a wine of tremendous character and personality. This is an absolutely stunning wine from Francois and Nina Mitjavile. (AG) '

'The 2017 Roc de Cambes is deep garnet-purple in color with a slightly reticent nose of blackberries, cassis and tar with nuances of pencil shavings, damp soil and dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, firm and grainy with great freshness and a long, lively finish. (LPB)'

More About The Winery

Domaine de Cambes is the lesser-known jewel of Bordeaux’s Right Bank, crafted by the legendary winemaker François Mitjavile, also behind Château Tertre Roteboeuf. Situated just outside the Saint-Émilion appellation on the slopes overlooking the Dordogne River, Domaine de Cambes benefits from the same meticulous care and philosophy that have made Mitjavile’s wines world-renowned.

The vineyard’s limestone and clay soils combined with François’ unique approach — late harvesting for full ripeness, gentle extractions, and long oak ageing — create wines of remarkable depth, velvety texture, and aromatic complexity. The blend is typically dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, delivering a style that is both powerful and refined.

Often described as a “baby Tertre Roteboeuf”, Domaine de Cambes offers a glimpse into Mitjavile’s singular vision at a more accessible price point, making it a favourite among sommeliers and collectors worldwide.
